Professor Albert J. Meyer, department of accounting at Natal University started the operations in 1975 under the name of Procount. In 1983 Procount commenced specialising in commercial short term insurance with two qualified partners joining the head office in Adderley Street, Cape Town.

During April 1985, Afrosure was launched and a separate office was established in the northern suburbs of Cape Town. Afrosure specialised in commercial group schemes.
